A release date for the one of the year’s most highly anticipated video games has finally arrived. Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto V will finally arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.

A trailer released in November 2012 assured that the game would arrive in Spring 2013, However, on a post on Rockstar Games’ official site, the developer revealed the release date’s push back and apologized for its delay.

Dear all,

Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.

We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.

Yours,
The GTA Team
GameSpot reports that shares of Take Two (Rockstar’s parent company) as well as retailer GameStop took a hit today because of the video game’s delay. Nevertheless, you can still expect GTAV to be the biggest selling Grand Theft Auto game in franchise history when it drops on September 17 for the Xbox360 and PS3.
GTAV is set in Los Santos (which is based on Los Angeles) and will feature three playable main characters—Michael, Trevor and Franklin. Check out screenshots from what is sure to be an epic game in the gallery.
