Wale became the first person of the Maybach Music Group to speak out about the attempt on Rick Ross’ life last week in Florida.

As it has been widely reported, the Maybach Music Group CEO was the target of a drive-by shooting as he was leaving a birthday dinner in his honor. Ross and the female passenger in his Rolls Royce weren’t harmed in the shooting, but he did crash into a restaurant while dodging the shots.

Rozay’s friend and label mate, Wale, spoke to Atlanta’s Streetz 94.5 about how the media perceived the shooting and shot down the notion that it was a publicity stunt.

“I think the media has been perpetuating a lot of things.,” the Ambition rapper said in the interview. “God forbid something happens to anybody, they’ll be playing people’s records all day and acting like you know…I even unfollowed a lot of people on Twitter while that was happening because it’s a joke to y’all cause you see somebody on TV everyday, but what if that’s your friend? Cause that’s my friend.”

Wale continued his sentiments to the radio hosts, saying that it’s not all fun and games when it comes to people’s lives. “I was talking to him last night about the football games. So what y’all think is a joke, that’s somebody’s health. I know his children. God forbid something happens, you know what I’m saying like, and I just lost one of my brothers so I don’t even play around with that stuff. There’s a lot of power in the tongue.”
