As President Obama prepares for his State of the Union address, House Speaker John Boehner is throwing criticism his way.

With the fiscal crisis still hovering over the commander in chief’s second term, Boehner believes that the president is too chicken to actually to cut spending.

During a morning breakfast Tuesday (Feb. 12), Boehner was clear with his views on the president’s inability to tackle what he sees as the one of the biggest issues threatening the country.“I think he’d like to deal with it [fiscal problems], but to do the kind of heavy lifting that needs to be done, I don’t think he’s got the guts to do it,” he said. “He understands there is a spending problem. He understands that we need changes and reforms, and we need to solve these problems.”

When questioned about his disparaging comments, the Ohio Republican adjusted his remarks saying that the president lacks “courage,” which he can understand. “I am not suggesting that this is easy, but what I am suggesting is that he is the President of the United States. This is the biggest threat to our society.”

Boehner and Obama have remained on opposite sides of economic reform. The president called for taxes to be raised on the wealthy, while Boehner offered up a “Plan B” option that was met with bi-partisan opposition. Congress later passed the originally proposed tax legislation.
