D’Angelo might hold the record for the slowest moving comeback ever, but perfection takes time. The singer has been announced as headliner of the Soul Beach Music Festival in Aruba, Memorial Day Weekend.
The the 13th annual event will take over the small island country from May 24-27 and will be held at the Nikky Beach Amphitheatre. Ne-Yo has also been named as a headliner, and will perform on Sunday, May 26.
Over five days, soul music lovers from around the globe will convene for a holiday extravaganza chocked full of activities, including beach parties, music, and comedy concerts.
D’Angelo had bene keeping a low profile for a while, only to re-emerge last year, playing his first gig in more than a decade at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. In an interview with GQ magazine, he talked about the demons he’s battled. “There’s forces that are going on that I don’t think a lot of motherfuckers that make music today are aware of,” he said. “It’s deep. I’ve felt it. I’ve felt other forces pulling at me. This is a very powerful medium that we are involved in. I learned at an early age that what we were doing in the choir was just as important as the preacher. It was a ministry in itself. We could stir the pot, you know? The stage is our pulpit, and you can use all of that energy and that music and the lights and the colors and the sound. But you know, you’ve got to be careful.”
With said evil forces at bay, the Virginia native has made his way back to the stage, but there’s no word as to when he’ll drop a new album.
