Chicago Teen Shot Dead Hours After Sister Attends President Obama’s Gun Violence Speech [PHOTOS]

The sister of a 14-year-old girl who attended President Obama’s gun violence address in Chicago was killed Friday (Feb. 15). Janay McFarlane was gunned down hours after her sister appeared on stage with the commander in chief as he addressed the gun violence epidemic in the city.

McFarlane, 18, was mother to an infant son, and was shot once in the head at around 11:30 p.m. in an alley on Chicago’s Northside. She was visiting family friends at the time, and struck by a bullet that was not intended for her.  “I really feel like somebody cut a part of my heart out,” her mother, Angela Blakely.

Two people have been questioned in her murder.

The teen’s younger sister, Destini, was among a group students chosen to sit behind the president as he spoke to the outbreaks of gun violence in the city where he still resides. “Barack Obama said teenagers are killing each other,” Destini said Saturday night. “He was saying we need to cut down on street violence.”

According to Blakely, McFarlane was struck by the shooting death of 15-year-old Hidya Pendleton. The teen was killed roughly a mile from Obama’s  Chicago home, weeks after she performed at his inauguration.

First Lady Michelle Obama attended Pendleton’s funeral.
