Joie “I.E.” Manda has resigned from his position as President of Def Jam Records. However, his next gig it already lined as he will take the reigns at Interscope, assuming the title of President, Urban.

Billboard reports that the announcement of Manda’s move was made today by Barry Weiss, President & CEO of UMG’s East Coast Labels, and John Janick, President & COO of Interscope Geffen A&M. The move is both literal and figurative as Manda will be relocating to Los Angeles and will now report to Janick.

The move to the West Coast doesn’t seem to be just about business. “Despite having to move back to Los Angeles for personal reasons, I am truly grateful to Barry, John and Jimmy Iovine (Chairman & CEO, Interscope Geffen A&M) for this exciting new opportunity,” said Manda in a statement. “I’ve learned a lot from Barry in the last year and am very appreciative of everything he has done for me. I am now looking forward to being part of the Interscope family, a company uniquely positioned for success despite this challenging  marketplace.”

Def Jam and Interscope are both subsidiaries of the Universal Music Group.

Manda became the President of Def Jam just over a year ago after a stint as Warner Bros. Records’ Urban Music EVP. Ironically, depending on your tastes in Hip-Hop, one of Manda’s most notable signings during his short tenure at Def Jam was Trinidad Jame$. The “All Gold Everything” rapper signed a deal with the label rumored to be worth as much as $2 million.

There is no word on who, if anyone, will replace the once again vacant President spot at Def Jam. Someone should at least give Irv Gotti a call, no?
