This guy’s robbery attempt went wrong on so many levels. Not that we’re condoning robberies, but when you show up with a gun only to get beat down with a baseball bat, things aren’t going so well.
Luis Quizhpe was shot before he took on one of the gun-wielding suspects inside his Logan Square store.
In the surveillance video, the 62-year-old pulls out his bat to save his brother-in-law, who was being held hostage by the robber. “I thought it was a toy,” he said of the gun. “But what made me frightened and really made me angry was when they grabbed my brother-in-law by the neck and they were pointing the gun at him.”
With Quizhpe’s brother-in-law in his loose grip, the robber has trouble keeping it together when the strap on his makeshift man purse (which we assume he was going to fill with money from the cash register) won’t stay up. Defeated and disheveled, the gunman slips up, at which point Quizhpe starts swinging uncontrollably.
The second robber jumps in and manages to get shot by his partner in crime, so he flees.
Robber No. 1 tries to follow suit but can’t leave the store without being buzzed out giving Quizhpe yet another opportunity to beat the sh-t out of the criminal.
So far, only one of the two suspects has been caught.
Chicago Police busted 53-year-old Cornell Mack, the man shot by his cohort. He was charged with armed robbery and attempted first degree murder for shooting at the victims.
Quizhpe was taken to a hospital for the bullet wound in his leg.
