Have you ever known a person to give YOU something on their birthday? Probably not, but such is the case for MMG rapper Rockie Fresh, who’s currently prepping The Birthday Tape to celebrate his 22nd year on Earth, which happens to be today. The project releases some time this week, but we receive the first offering with “Panera Bread,” featuring Rick Ross.

Lunice of TNGHT laced the Chicagoan with that work, as far as the beat is concerned. Spacey melodies echoe as hard hitting drums and other sounds we quite frankly cannot describe knock throughout the track’s soundscape. Rozay’s role is limited to the chorus, where he shines as usual.

Lyrically, Fresh spits braggadocios raps and even mentions his opinions on he and close friend Casey Veggies getting stiffed on this year’s XXL Freshman list. “She said I should have been No.1 on the Freshman list/I told her, ‘it was nothing to me girl, don’t stress that sh-t/Plus, all my n—as zonin,’ I respect that sh-t/Although they forget Casey and they say life changes/so when a couple years from now, I swear they all gon thank us.”

Nevertheless, MMG’s latest signee is moving forward, and looking to make 2013 his year. You’ll have to wait to see if The Birthday Tape sets the tone for that to happen. Hear “Panera Bread” below in the mean time.
