What’s deemed as fun and games for some is perceived by others as negative conduct that must be addressed
Gilbert Arenas and his problems with firearms has resulted in the Washington Wizards player being indefinitely suspended from the league, as was reported Wednesday by the NBA commissioner.
Stating that Arenas’ behavior made him unfit to be on the court, the player will also be out of action without pay. On top of that, for every game that is missed, Agent Zero will lose $147,208.
The former All Star was recently photographed pointing his finger like a gun at his teammates which NBA Commissioner David Stern didn’t take too kindly and warned Arenas that he would be suspended for his behavior and possibly worse.
“The possession of firearms by an NBA player in an NBA arena is a matter of the utmost concern to us,” Stern said in a statement.
“Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game. Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA.”
Since then, the player has come to apologize for his actions and fully understands the severity of his recent decisions.
“I feel very badly that my actions have caused the NBA to suspend me, but I understand why the league took this action,” Arenas said in a statement through his attorney. “I put the NBA in a negative light and let down my teammates and our fans. I am very sorry for doing that.”
Arenas is currently under investigation by the federal and local authorities after bringing firearms with him to the Wizards’ locker. Another incident arose when the player, along with teammate Javaris Crittention drew guns on one another on Christmas Eve stemming from an argument over a gambling debt, according to the New York Post.
Agent Zero has spoken on the reason behind keeping guns in his possession while in the locker room.
“As I have said before, I had kept the four unloaded handguns in my house in Virginia but then moved them over to my locker at the Verizon Center to keep them away from my young kids. I brought them without any ammunition into the District of Columbia, mistakenly believing that the recent change in the D.C. gun laws allowed a person to store unloaded guns in the District. On Monday, December 21st, I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate.”
He had added that he has never used the guns to intimidate anyone, but carrying a weapon is still something that must be addressed accordingly.
“Contrary to some press accounts, I never threatened or assaulted anyone with the guns and never pointed them at anyone. Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong. I should not have brought the guns to D.C. in the first place, and I now realize that there’s no such thing as joking around when it comes to guns — even if unloaded.”
Well, good luck to the Washington Wizards. Just got Agent Zero back and he’s already off again.
