Has the legendary video game studio that’s given us unbelievable titles to play throughout the years just gone off the deep end?

Okay, maybe not, but you have to admit that this new video courtesy of Rockstar Games is just a tad weird and unbelievable.

For those who were familiar with the fictional Kifflom cult religion (or The Epsilon Program) from Grand Theft Auto IV or San Andreas, you know just how creepy those guys can be. The cult first emerged as a teaser site for the latter title and later was referenced numerous times on radio stations and by pedestrians in the game itself. The cult is an obvious scam, intended to gain money from unsuspecting people by brainwashing them into followers.

The group parodies the real life Church of Scientology and believes it is “a fellowship of like-minded adults who tithe money in exchage for salvation and merit badges“.

Thankfully, you’re not a couch potato zombie and are anticipating what this could potentially mean for the player(s) and characters of the Grand Theft Auto V universe. Rockstar wrote on its own blog, attempting to explain the reemergence of the crazy cult, writing, “The goals and the pledge of Epsilon will continue to be revealed in due time. The Epsilon Program does not exist in just one time or place. We invite you to visit one of our enlightenment centers.”

The video clip (which you can see after the break) also comes along with a downloadable screensaver (do people still use those?) on the Rockstar website. The clips extol the virtues of Epsilonism by listing the 12 tenets and goals along with creepy music and text fading in over what appears to be in-game scenes of the sea and a lighthouse, rock buffs, etc. There is also a character shown, who may potentially be someone we’ll meet in the game.
