Former San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman may have been enjoying his NFL retirement a little too much. According to reports from local police and the NFL Network, last night (June 9), the 29-year-old was rushed to a hospital after overdosing on an alleged, and unknown, alcohol and drug combination.
The Los Angeles Times reported via a source that Merriman was sent from the Colony nightclub in Hollywood around 9:30 p.m. to Cedars Sinai Medical Center for an undisclosed “medical emergency.” LAPD officer Mark Ro gave the official statement of the hospitalization to NFL.com.
However, the story gets strange as it appears Merriman was released from the hospital and was tweeting his adventures this morning after his brief stay, which included hanging out with the Game. Merriman tweeted a photo of himself and the Compton rapper, along with a nearly $16,000 bar tab the pair split at the Greystone Manor nightclub
TMZ nabbed video of the rapper leaving the club around 12:30 a.m. local time and he appeared to be aware of his surroundings while joking with the cameraman. No further details regarding Merriman’s hospitalization has been released.
Merriman was a three-time Pro Bowl selection, retiring this spring after steroid scandals and injuries dogged him in his eight-year career.
