It’s been a very interesting week for 2 Chainz that kickstarted after he was the victim of an attempted robbery in San Francisco. Police reports were initially confusing —it was unclear if it were the Grammy nominated rapper or a member of his entourage that was targeted— but surveillance footage of the incident clearly shows the Def Jam artist evading gunshots from two assailants. While in his hometown for Birthday Bash, the Hair Weave Killer sat with Atlanta’s Power 107.9 to candidly discuss the incident.

Here’s an exert from Dos Chainz’s interview:

“I saw the gun first. It was like a .357. It was so heavy he couldn’t really hold it. The gun was so big. That’s what made me take off running.

When I went into the street, there was another dude with a whole ‘nother gun. That’s when I knew it wasn’t like an episode of ‘Punk’d.’ I was like this is real. … I had bullet fragments in my hair. … I think he thought he shot me. It was a misfortunate accident. I didn’t fill out a report. I don’t think they were trying to rob me. They really was just busting on me on some real stuff. At the end of the day, it’s just a part of me growing as an artist, me becoming more pop, me becoming a superstar.

I’m just excited about life. I’m so turnt up, you can’t turn me down. I’m just geeked about life. Then when I saw the footage, I’m like it was real. ‘They was on my ass!’ This was a sign. That’s all it was. I come from this.”
