While the Fourth of July weekend rolls on, the city of Chicago was once again gripped by an epic outbreak of violence.  As of Wednesday (July 3), afternoon, eight people have been reported dead with 30 more injured, including a pair of little boys.

The Chicago Tribune reported on the condition of the boys, who were both attending separate parties in parks inside the city.  The youngest victim is 5-year-old Jaden Donald, who was shot in the abdomen and right leg while at a party in Cooper Park with his family on the Far South Side last night. The boy is currently in critical condition, losing three organs after emergency surgery.

The other boy, seven years of age, was shot in the neck behind the ear by a stray bullet last night as well while at Cole Park on the city’s South Side. Officials say he was hit with a stray bullet from a passing car shooting at another vehicle. The boy is also in critical condition as well.

Among the dead, 26-year-old William Jones was found shot in a car and pronounced dead on the scene early Wednesday (July 3) afternoon. A 24-year-old man was shot in the back later that day, eventually dying from his wounds that night.

The bulk of the shootings occurred in the notorious South Side section of Chicago. No arrests have been made in any of the cases thus far.
