3 Top Sprinters Test Positive For Performance Enhancement Drugs

This isn’t a great look for the sprinting community at large. Lance Armstrong is still feeling the heat from his own doping scandal, and now comes word that a group of three top athletes tested positive for performance enhancement drugs.

Among the trio was Tyson Gay, an American athlete who held the title as the country’s best sprinter for more than a decade.  “I don’t have any lies,” Gay confessed the Associated Press. “I don’t have anything to say to make this seem like it was a mistake.”

Gay is a former world champion and competed against Usain Bolt. He has resigned from the upcoming World Championship and promised to face whatever consequences. “I will take whatever punishment I get like a man. I do realize and respect what I put in my body, and it is my responsibility.”

He however wouldn’t take the blame for breaking the rules simply because he never “knowingly” or “willfully” engaged in inappropriate activity. “I know exactly what went on, but I can’t discuss it right now,” he continued. “It has been tough for me. I have always been a drug-free athlete. I hope I am able to run again, but I will take whatever punishment I get like a man.”

The other two implicated in the scandal are Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson both of Jamaica. Powell, specializes in 100 metres, is an held the world record in his sport between the years of 2005 and 2008. Simpson is an Olympic gold medalist.
