Visuals have played a large part in Ryan Leslie‘s career. Early on, the singer-songwriter and producer gained notoriety on YouTube. Today, he implores a much more grandiose approach with his Black Mozart documentary.

This supporting piece of R. Les’s forthcoming album of the same title gives viewers a behind the scene look at his creative process.

If anything, you’ll gain an inside perspective of how he collaborates — bubbling producer Cardiak (Rick Ross’s “Diced Pineapples” and Lloyd Banks’ “Start It Up”) plays co-pilot on a few beats here.

Black Mozart was inspired by everything Leslie felt after losing a million dollar lawsuit over the reward he promised for his stolen laptop in December. In turn, he traveled to overseas to create an entirely new body of work.

According to Leslie, “Black Mozart starts at the moment that I walk out of the courthouse. I wrote the entire album in the two days following the verdict, so the album is written and will be recorded in layers with the strings, horns and potentially a choir in the royal conservatory in Vienna, Austria, one of the homes of some of the most classical music ever written.”
