Legendary Roots crew affiliate Dice Raw has a concept album on the way called Jimmy’s Back that explores the outstanding numbers of Blacks being imprisoned and its affects on the culture. Inspired by Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow, the project is accompanied by a visual piece (of the same title) that further explores the topic.

Dice sat with four felons from his native Philadelphia to receive their take on how society views them, the traps law enforcement place in urban neighborhoods, and more. Now reformed rappers, each participant gives a vivid account of the mistreatment people of color receive at the hands of law officials.

If anything, the stories told in this 18-minute documentary place a scope on the prison-industrial complex and creates a conversation that needs to be about the mass incarceration of Black men.

The musical portion of Jimmy’s Back releases August 19. Head over to Okayplayer for more information on the doc. Watch it in full below.
