A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in a Newark housing project Wednesday (September 4) evening. The victim, who had a history of run-ins with the police, was later discovered to be in possession of 30 bricks of heroin and a loaded handgun in his bedroom.

The teen, identified as Ali Rajohn Eric Henderson, was shot at the Riverview Terrace Housing Complex on Riverview Court in the courtyard right in front of where he lived. Henderson was found suffering from a gunshot wound at 9 p.m., and was pronounced dead a short while later; He was the city’s 10th victim in as many days.

According to various sources and law enforcement documents, a search of Henderson’s bedroom led to the large drug stash and a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun along with a box of .357 rounds. While a motive for the killing has yet to be introduced, Henderson’s death mirrors many of the past gang and drug-related murders over the especially violent week in the New Jersey city.

The shooting death has rocked the family and residents of Riverview Terrace, and a makeshift memorial has been erected in Henderson’s honor. According to the Star-Ledger, the boy’s mother and his friends are in deep mourning.

“I just want them to find who killed them,” she said to the paper on Thursday (September 5). “He was just a baby.”
