A murder outside a restaurant in Atlanta involving a mother of 10 and part-time rap artist is currently under investigation. While attempting to break up a fight between her friend and another woman, 35-year-old Charlese Brooks was hit by gunfire by the woman and died on the scene.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on the shooting outside the Brick House Restaurant in East Atlanta. The incident took place Tuesday (Oct. 9) at 6:30 p.m., with the suspect, 34-year-old Terri Chimon Williams turning herself into police the following morning.

Police have been trying to determine a motive but have not confirmed any details. The Brooks family allege that the fight between the two women was sparked over a text message.

“There are a lot of dynamics to this case,” Atlanta homicide unit commander Capt. Paul Geurrcui said. “Information that we gathered during their preliminary stage of our investigation indicates that there was a verbal argument that escalated into the shooting. We still have a lot of work to do.”

Along with Brooks’ four biological children, she was also a foster mother to six other children, five brothers and their sister, as well. Brooks’ family also said she owned a pair of businesses, and just recently purchased a home. Brooks also moonlighted as a rapper, appearing on Gucci Mane’s “Ms. Atlanta” track in 2010.

“The peacemakers are always the victims,” Brooks’ aunt, Charleen Denn said to the AJC of the shooting. “It’s sad that she was the only one who was hit. She didn’t have anything to do with the fight.”
