ScHoolboy Q isn’t the type to flee from a title if it fits. By this, we mean that he fully embraces his status as a “gangster rapper.”

The Black Hippy member spoke on this during a recent interview with MTV. Q, who’s currently prepping his major label debut Oxymoron, said, “I’m not one of them rappers that’s scared to put a title on their name.”

Songs like “Banger” and “Yay Yay” serve as testimonials for Q’s musical disposition. “There’s no more gangster rap really; it’s just trap. That’s trap music now. So I wanna get that old feeling back that I bring, that I do naturally,” he said, while explaining that his goal is to report real life and not to promote violence or negativity.

Q continued, “I’m just more or so telling my story of what I grew up around, and what I seen, and what I did.”

As spit by the TDE artist on Isaiah Rashad’s “I Shot You Down (Remix),” Oxymoron could release some time in January.

Hear him speak more about his identity as an artist in the full discussion below.
