An Alabama woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly shot and killed another woman for not showing enough emotion after a hotly contested college football game.

Adrian Briskey, 28, attended a party where patrons were watching the annual “Iron Bowl” contest between the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn University Tigers football squads last Saturday. After Auburn defeated Alabama in one of the most dramatic wins of the season, Birmingham sisters Michelle and Neketa Shepherd reportedly joked about the loss not being a big deal despite being fans of the Crimson Tide.

Briskey took offense to the ribbing, according to Neketa Shepherd, and cursed at the women. After friends dismissed Briskey’s outburst as nothing more than a drunken response, the Shepherd sisters were set to go home and found Briskey outside waiting for them.

Although police in the town of Hoover say the women got into an argument that turned physical before Briskey fired her weapon, another account was offered. Shepherd says as they tried to move their vehicle from the parking lot and to talk with friends, Briskey began her violent assault.

“She just started shooting. I heard five shots,” Neketa Shepherd said to AL.com. “She was like 10 feet away. My sister never touched her, and she never touched my sister. They never had words.”

Michelle Shepherd, 36, and a mother of three, was pronounced dead on the scene. Her sister, who worked alongside her as a case worker with at-risk youth, tried to stop the bleeding as paramedics were called to no avail.

Briskey was taken into custody in Hoover, and was awaiting transfer to the Shelby County Jail. She has been charged in the death of Michelle Shepherd and held on $75,000 bond.
