We all know that Michelle Obama has a mean side-eye. A skill which she’s been busy sharpening over the years.
Hers is the kind of look your mom may have given to let you know sh*t was about to get real. It has the ability to stop you in your tracks, run and hide, or re-think your life choices.
The first lady tested out her new-and-improved death stare at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela, and it was glorious. Talking heads will tell you that she wasn’t actually glaring at anyone but we know better.
Mrs. Obama was indeed paying attention to Mandela’s memorial, and keeping a firm grip on President Obama at the same time. This basically proves that her side-eye game has reached Jedi status.
Of course a woman as regal as Mrs. O. deserves respect without demanding it and no, we’re not slapping her with the “angry Black woman” stereotype on her. We’re just saying that there’s nothing wrong with pulling out a “the look” every now and again. It’s never really gets old.
