R. Kelly isn’t having the best week after a vicious Black Twitter “dragging” and an explosive Village Voice piece that laid out some of the Chicago singer’s past sexual abuse allegations. The R&B star somewhat addressed his critics in a recent interview, choosing to sidestep the rumors.

Sitting with Atlanta’s V-103 and Big Tigger on Monday (December 16), the “Pied Piper” didn’t seem too bothered by the Internet slander and the article. Instead, the 46-year-old Kelly opted to thank his fans and focus on working his 12th studio album, Black Panties, which was released a week ago.

“Well I feel like I got the football, man, I’m running towards the touchdown and stopping and looking back, mess around, I’ll get tackled,” R. Kelly said vaguely. “And I also want my fans and everybody out there to know that I really appreciate everybody’s support from the very beginning of my career. But as you know, when you get on top of anything, it’s very windy up there.”

Kelly added, “It’s not just about getting on top, it’s about holding your balance once you get up there…You have to be spiritually a climber. So I feel good about Black Panties… As long as I got my fans screaming my name around the world and buying my records, and supporting R. Kelly, everybody who doesn’t agree with it should listen to the last song on ‘Black Panties’ [‘Shut Up’].”

Doesn’t seem like R. Kelly has any plans to directly speak on the allegations, but will his comments be enough to silence the chatter going on around his long-rumored behind-the-scenes activities with minors? Let us know in the comments.
