The first question is, what took so long? A street that Miles Davis once lived on in the Upper West Side of Manhattan has been renamed after the late Jazz giant.
Reports the New York Daily News:
The block that was the longtime home to a jazz legend was finall renamed in his honor on Wednesday.
Officials renamed a stretch of W. 77th St. “Miles Davis Way” Wednesday, resolving a lengthy battle for the jazz impresario’s neighbor, Shirley Zafirau, who fought for years to get the street name changed.
Davis, who died in 1991, lived at 312 W. 77th St., between Riverside Dr. and West End Ave., for a quarter century, and was known to hold jam sessions on his stoop, much to the chagrin of his silence-loving neighbors.
Before his death in 1991 at the age of 65, the Kind Of Blue musician collaborated with Hip-Hop producer Easy Mo Bee.
It was recently announced that renowned actor Don Cheadle will be portraying Miles Davis in a forthcoming biopic called Kill The Trumpet Player.
