Jay Z and his fledging Roc Nation Sports might face some Rap competition in the near future. Cash Money Records has recently filed trademark applications to conduct business as a sport agency.

On October 25, 2013, Cash Money Records filed an application for “Visionare Sports Group” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In the filing “Visionare Sports Group” will relate to “sports agency services, namely, management, representation and promotion of professional athletes; business management of sports people; talent recruiting services in the field of sports.”

According to Inside The League, Lil’ Wayne seems to want a piece of the athlete representation category. Tunechi’s Young Money Records is allegedly investing in a Mississippi based sports agency called Play 2 Win Sports. Ironically the roster of athletes currently represented by Play 2 Win Sports is unclear as their website doesn’t designate any difference between present and former clients. Hip-Hop Wired telephoned Play 2 Win Sports to get further clarification but a representative stated he was going to a meeting and requested a follow up call next week.

This is not the first introduction into the world of sports for YMCMB as Drake was recently announced as a new creative consultant for his hometown NBA team the Toronto Raptors.

At press time there is no official comment from Birdman or Lil’ Wayne.

Do you think Birdman and Lil’ Wayne can be successful at their sports agency endeavors? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
