Happy B’Day Baby Girl: The 10 Most Electrifying Moments In Aaliyah’s Life

Thirteen years ago, the world lost the talented siren known as Aaliyah Dana Haughton due to a tragic plane crash. Today, we celebrate her life by looking back at some of her most captivating moments.

The Brooklyn-born, Detroit-raised singer graced the stage when she made her debut in 1988 on an episode of Star Search, and from there on she proved that entertainment was her life.

At age 11, alongside her aunt Gladys Knight, Aaliyah would audition tirelessly to enter the industry, she so belonged in. Shining bright from such an early age allowed the pop princess to influence a generation to come after her, while remaining hardworking and wise in the present. Today, she would have been 35 years young, and more than likely still a force within the business.

A multi-talented triple threat, Aaliyah consistently topped the charts (“Are You That Somebody,” “Try Again”), proved to be a box office star (Romeo Must Die, Queen of the Damned), and served as a blueprint for R&B and genre-bending musicians to follow (Drake, Ciara, etc.).

Recently, Aaliyah has found her name back in the news as Drake and his cohort producer, Noah “40” Shebib, attempted to resurrect the fallen star’s sultry voice via their own project.

While those ideas have been put on hold indefinitely, her mark on the entertainment biz, film and fashion will forever last in the minds of those who know their history.

We honor the legacy of Aaliyah Haughton by celebrating the most electrifying moments from her life.
