Hip-Hop has grown leaps and bounds since its very humble beginnings in the South Bronx. Thankfully some still pay proper tribute to forefathers of Rap. Good Day New York did just that when they celebrated Hip-Hop’s 40th anniversary.

Yesterday (February 20) FOX 5 News correspondent and HOT 97‘s Street Soldiers (a roundtable dialogue about community issues) personality , Lisa Evers hosted some of Rap’s royalty to commemorate Hip-Hop’s transformation of society.

In the hour special, Good Day New York chronicled the birth and rise of Hip-Hop. The segments included video montages, interviews and live performances. Amongst the invitees were DJ Kool Herc, Biz Markie, Naughty by Nature, Funkmaster Flex, DJ Enuff and Black Sheep.

Evers detailed the importance of the show in an interview with The Daily News. “It’s black, white, every color. It’s multiracial. It’s international. It’s part of our language” she explained.

While Herc was honored to retell the birth of Hip-Hop, he expressed his disappointment on the lack of credit he gets for bringing the culture to existence. “The love from the community is there, worldwide is there but on a broad spectrum I don’t get invited to the cookouts and basketball court side seats.”
