Few moviegoers could forget the passionate and gruesome scenes of Frank Miller’s classic comic-come-to-life, 300.

Director Zack Snyder saw box-office gold in 2007 with nearly a half of billion dollars in ticket sales thanks to the aforementioned action sequences and the unforgettable “This is Sparta!” line. Now, the Legendary Pictures team is reuniting for a prequel of sorts in 300: Rise of an Empire, a surefire way to whet the appetite of fans who have been bloodthirsty for more Greek war.

The new flick is based on Xerxes, an unpublished novel by Miller, named after the original film’s primary antagonist. Much of the film will revolve around Themistocles played by Australian actor Sullivan Stapleton. Lena Headey (Queen Gorgo), Rodrigo Santoro (King Xerxes), and David Wenham (Dilios) will also reprise the roles from 300.

Snyder, who serves as writer and producer for the new 300, concedes his directing duties to Noam Murro who directed 2008’s Smart People.

300: Rise of an Empire will release in theaters on March 7, 2014–two days shy from the seventh anniversary of the first movie. Warner Bros. has released a hoard of film stills for your collection.
