Details are emerging in what led to the arrest of Raymond Felton, who is free on $25,000 bail after he was arraigned yesterday (February 25) in Manhattan Criminal Court.

The New York Knicks point guard was arrested after the lawyer of his soon to be ex-wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, turned in his unregistered handgun to authorities.

Reports the New York Daily News:

Busted Knicks point guard Raymond Felton grew increasingly erratic over the last several months — “aggressively” holding a handgun during a Valentine’s Day clash with his wife as their 19-month marriage crumbled.

Ariane Raymondo-Felton, 26, told cops she was going through a divorce and that she feared her husband might harm himself, sources told the Daily News. Her lawyer took the gun, which had been stashed under the bed at the Feltons’ Upper West Side apartment, to the 20th Precinct stationhouse about 5 p.m. Monday.

The Belgian-made semiautomatic handgun was loaded with 18 armor-piercing bullets.

Reportedly, Felton never said that he intended to harm himself or threatened his wife. He was charged with two counts of weapons possession for the unregistered gun and illegal gun clip, which are both felonies. The former University of North Carolina player faces a max sentence of 2 1/3 to 7 years in jail if he is convicted.

Judge Diana Boyer set a six-month order of protection to keep Felton away from his wife. The condition of his bail do allow him to travel, and the Knicks are scheduled to play the Miami Heat in Miami tomorrow.

If Ariane Raymondo-Felton, didn’t want the gun in her home, couldn’t she have sent him a text to get rid of it, though? He lawyer certainly is crafty.
