There has been plenty of chatter surrounding the remake of the classic film Annie starring Quvenzhané Wallis in the lead role after replacing Willow Smith. The first of what will be many trailers to come for the anticipated musical drama debuted last night, starring Wallis, co-star Jamie Foxx and others.

The plot borrows largely the same as the original, with 10-year-old Wallis playing an orphaned child who lives under the oppressive rule of mean foster mother Miss Hannigan played by Cameron Diaz. Annie and a group of other girls live at a group home and are tortured daily by Miss Hannigan. In the clip, Annie has a chance meeting with Will Stacks, the updated version of Daddy Warbucks played by Foxx, and immediately the chemistry between the pair is evident.

Stacks isn’t that nice of a guy, and only seeks to use Annie as leverage in his upcoming political campaign. However, Stacks’ assistant works to humanize the situation and gets her boss to see that Annie is much more than just a political prop.

The movie is  set in New York, fitting considering Jay Z is one of the film’s producers along with Philadelphia native, Will Smith. Director and co-producer Will Gluck is getting a big shot with this film, after directing a handful of comedies such as Easy A and Friends With Benefits.

Annie is slated for release this December and will feature original songs from Jay Z.
