Lupita Nyong’o has been buzzing in Hollywood circles for months now, capped by her Best Supporting Actress Oscar win at the Academy Awards earlier this month. Next up for the stunning actress is a possible role in J.J. AbramsStar Wars: Episode VII if reports are true.

J.J. Abrams was announced to take over the sci-fi franchise last year to much fanfare, and is still adding finishing touches to the latest film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise. While rumors have been going around online for months over who Abrams will select for the film, there has only been a handful of names to appear.

The Hollywood Reporter says that sources told them that  Nyong’o met with Abrams several weeks before she took home her Oscar on March 2, winning the coveted award for her role in 12 Years A Slave. The Hollywood Reporter article is short on details but does offer a touch of excitement to what could possibly come.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Now Nyong’o’s name has surfaced in connection to Star Wars. Because of the secrecy, it is unclear which role it could be. One possibility is that of a descendent of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has been described as a non-Caucasian role. That is separate from the search for two roles, female and male, for characters in their twenties.

It is known that Abrams is still meeting with actors with several for his leads, which remain uncast. Several sources say that Jesse Plemons is one of the actors to beat for one of the roles and that British actors Ed Speleers and John Boyega are also in the mix.

Adam Driver is in final negotiations to play a undisclosed villain character in the movie.

Nyong’o was in talks to play Tiger Lily in the upcoming Pan film, losing the role to Rooney Mara in the end.
