When news that Jay Z was entering the sports agent business, skeptics questioned if the savvy businessman would have what it takes to flourish in that industry. According to a video profile from Bloomberg TV, it appears that the Brooklyn rapper has the respect of his sporting agent peers.

Titled “The Jay Z Effect: How Good A Sports Agent Is He?,” the segment opens up marking the date, April 2 2013, that Jay Z established his Roc Nation Sports agency. Talking with several industry insiders, Bloomberg TV reveals that Hov is a threat to the game in more ways than one.

“I thought at the minute he entered the business that Jay Z would be a formidable presence in the agent industry, He is a draw,” said Andrew Brandt, former agent and NFL executive. “And I’ve heard from the agent community that they’re worried.”

“Certainly from a competitor’s standpoint, we’ve got to be concerned. Jay Z and Roc Nation bring a lot to the party,” added Tom Condon, head of football at CAA Sports. “He’s got reach to places that what probably are different than what typically CAA is involved in.”

So far, Jay Z has recruited and signed top talent across the worlds of baseball, basketball and football. C.C. Sabathia, Kevin Durant, Skylar Diggins, Geno Smith and Robinson Cano are just some of Roc Nation Sports’ signees with rumors that University of Kansas phenom Andrew Wiggins will also sign with Jay Z’s group. Of course, who wouldn’t want the mogul’s Midas touch in guiding their careers giving the success he’s had beyond Hip-Hop?

The sentiment that Jay Z has what it takes to succeed in the sports agent game was echoed soundly by most interviewed, even if there were some questions regarding his approach.

“With guys who are well-established and experienced in the business backing him up, there’s no limit to what he can do,” added Jeffery Moorad, former agent and MLB owner.
