A documentary about Nas’ classic debut album, Illmatic, called Time Is Illmatic will be opening this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. We now get to see a trailer of the film which will be a must see for anyone who calls themselves a Hip-Hop fan.

The two and half minute clip features voiceovers and imagery of the gritty NYC of the 90s that the album’s lyrics codify in rap form. Brooklyn rapper AZ, the sole rap guest on the album, can be heard saying, “It was like living a hustler’s life, through poetry.”

The film will be making its world premiere on Wednesday, April 16.

A deluce version of Nas’ first volley in the game, Illmatic XX, is out April 15. Watch the Time Is Illmatic trailer below.
