Michael Sam coolly handled coming out as a gay man who happened to be a top NFL prospect and all the media attention that followed. But when he finally got the official word that the St. Louis Rams were going to select him in the NFL Draft, all the raw emotion came flooding out in tears.
There are those who take issue with Sam, who is Black, sharing a multitude of hugs and kisses with his white boyfriend. Get over it.
Despite being the SEC’s c0-Defensive Player of the Year, Sam wasn’t taken until the 249 pick in the seventh, and last, round of the draft. We all know why it took so long.
What Sam needs to do now is handle his business on the playing field, and everything else—including the blatant fear many teams that could use his talents displayed by passing on him—will work out.
Check out the footage of Sam’s reaction to being drafted below.
