Prolific wordsmith and Hip-Hop icon KRS-One is giving students in the nation’s capital a chance to witness the Hip-Hop icon in person.

Knowledge Reigns Supreme will take to D.C.’s Trinity College for their fifth annual International Hip-Hop festival.

Regarded as the largest festival of its kind in the United States, The Teacha will headline after acts from the around the world including The reMINDers, Nomadic Massive, Anita Tijoux,  DAM, Shokanti , Wagëblë  and Flex Matthews.

Attendees will also be able to witness the “Global Moves: Social Change Through Hip-Hop” academic panel, the “Hip Hop and Poetry Saved My Life”  youth oriented workshops and the Sundance Festival-nominated film, “Slingshot Hip Hop”, which will be screened with a panel discussion to follow.

There will also be a local graffiti artist contest and B-Boy competition with a $1500 prize.

Trinity College is home to the first student branch of the Temple of Hip Hop, KRS-One’s national organization created to maintain and promote hip hop as a genuine political movement and culture.

The movement was created on the Trinity campus in the spirit of the mission of the festival; to encourage DJs and emcees to teach people about the culture of Hip, to write more socially conscious songs, and to encourage radio stations to play more socially conscious music.

Past performers have included K’Naan, Blitz the Ambassador, Comrade Fatso and Les Nubians.
