26-year-old Willie Clark was sentenced to life in prison plus 1,152 years Friday for the 2007 shooting death of Denver Broncos player Darrent Williams.

The member of the Crips street gang was eligible for the 1,000 plus years behind bars because  he had two prior felony convictions and was convicted of 16 counts of attempted first degree murder and aggravated assault.

As previously reported, he was found guilty of murdering the NFL player when he attempted to leave a New Year’s Eve celebration.

Prosecutors say Clark and several other gang members became enraged at the preferential treatment Williams and other players were receiving and got into an altercation inside a club.

When Williams and his teammates attempted to leave in a stretch hummer, Clark drove by in an SUV and sprayed the car with bullets, killing Williams who died in teammate Javon Walker’s arms.

The Associated Press reports that the mother of the slain star asked Clark to show remorse for what he did but instead the convicted murderer was seen smiling in the court room.
