Run This Town: 11 Mayors Who Went Down For Corruption [Photos]

Screen Shot 2014-07-11 at 1.42.51 PM   Emmanuel Onunwor Nigerian-born Emmanuel Onunwor ran for mayor of East Cleveland on the platform of cracking down on corruption and racketeering. He was first elected in 1997, and in 2004 he was convicted of taking bribes and tax evasion charges. He was sentenced to nine years in 2004  and released in June 2012. Tragically, Emmanuel’s legal troubles were brought up in the murder case against his son. Clifton Onunwor was convicted of gunning down his mother, Diane Onunwor in 2008. Prosecutors argued that the shooting was revenge against Diane for assisting in Emmanuel’s takedown. Clifton’s defense denied the claim. He was sentenced to life in prison.
