There has been quite the buzz for upcoming race relations satire film, Dear White People. The big screen debut from screenwriter and director Justin Simien is revealed in a new extended trailer, giving viewers a deeper look inside the flick.
Starring former Everybody Hates Chris star Tyler James Williams, past Veronica Mars cast member Tessa Thompson, and veteran actor Dennis Haysbert, Dear White People is set in the fictional Ivy League institution, Winchester University. It centers mainly on four Black students at the school, and the radio station manned by Thompson’s Samantha White character.
Trying to break down the trailer’s finer points would be tough, but there are smart digs at the so-called mysteries of Black hair, the amount of Black friends a White person should have before they’re not considered racist and many more slight jabs.
