The NYPD has a problem. A Brooklyn grandmother was dragged out of her home and left partially nude in the hallway by a dozen cops as she was placed under arrest.

Reports the New York Daily News:

A Brooklyn grandmother who had just taken a shower was dragged from her apartment by about 12 cops who then stood by for more than two minutes while she was naked in the hallway, according to video that emerged Friday.

Denise Stewart was in her Brownsville apartment on July 13 when police — responding to a domestic disturbance call at the building — pounded on her door at 11:45 p.m. and demanded entry.

Stewart, 48, cracked the door wearing only a towel wrapped around her body and underpants — and was yanked into the hallway by cops over the screams of her family and neighbors.

Neighbors whipped out their cell phones and videotaped the arrests. To say that the scene was chaotic is an understatement.

“Yo, her mother got asthma …y’all wicked, y’all f—— wicked,” shouted one woman.

“Her asthma! Her asthma! Her asthma,” screamed another woman.

For approximately two minutes and 20 seconds, Stewart was bare-breasted in the hallway as additional police officers tramped up the stairs and through the hallway, glancing at her as they passed by.

When cops hauled Stewart’s two sons and two daughters out of the apartment and cuffed them, a female cop finally draped a white towel over Stewart’s exposed torso.

The details of what led to this incident are bizarre. Reportedly, police got a 911 call from the building, but they were not given a specific apartment number. Officers allegedly heard shouting from Stewart’s apartment, then banged on her door, demanding entry.

That’s when Stewart cracked the door, only wearing a towel wrapped around her body and underpants, and reportedly told officers they had the wrong apartment. Cops say they noticed that Stewart’s 12-year-old had visible injuries to her face, and when questioned she told officers she was beaten by her mother and older sister with a belt.

According to the police, family members tried to prevent the cops from arresting Stewart, and in the ensuing struggle she allegedly bit an officer’s finger.

Just about everyone in the apartment was charged, except for a 4-year-old, that allegedly got pepper sprayed.

Denise Stewart was charged with assaulting a police officer, and — along with her oldest daughter, Diamond Stewart, 20, — resisting arrest, acting in a manner injurious to a child and criminal possession of a weapon.

Stewart’s son Kirkland Stewart, 24, was charged with resisting arrest. The 12-year-old was charged with assaulting a police officer, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon.

The NYPD is already under scrutiny for the death of Eric Garner—which has been deemed a homicide—after he was placed in a chokehold by an officer in July. While there are plenty of cops that actually serve and protect, an incident like this only bolsters the feelings of many that cops are inept and quick to make situations worse than they already are, sometimes to deadly affect.
