Whenever biopics are cast, arguments inevitably occur over whether or not said actor actually looks like the real life person they are portraying (see: the Nina Simone movie). You’re going to have to sprinkle in plenty of head shaking, too, when you see who Lifetime cast as Missy Elliott for its forthcoming Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.
According to The Wrap, newcomer Chattrisse Dolabaille will play Missy Elliott and Izaak Smith will be Timbaland in the film. The two artists were instrumental to the late singer’s career. As for Dolabaille, she is an actress, singer and dancer from Toronto Ontario, Canada.
However, as can be seen in her digital resume below, she sure looks nothing like Missy Elliott when it comes to complexion or body type. But hey, brown-skinned Denzel Washington exceptionally played light-skinned Malcolm X, so…
Other people in Aaliyah’s life have already been cast, probably most interestingly Damon Dash, who will be portrayed by actor Anthony Grant. It it’s the same “Tony Grant,” he was once a member of R&B group Az Yet.
The movie will star Nickelodeon actress Alexandra Shipp and will be based on Christopher Farley’s biography, Aaliyah: More Than a Woman.
