Across various national news outlets, coverage of the tense situation in Ferguson, Mo. and  the police shooting death of Mike Brown has been ongoing. However, the folks over at CNN have been blasted on social media for sloppy reporting and an extremely questionable suggestion from one of the network’s anchors.

Rosemary Church, who works the international news desk for CNN, suggested that police in Ferguson use, in her words, “water cannons” or water hoses to disperse the crowds demonstrating in the city. Her Black co-anchor, Erroll Barnett, seemed to flash her a look of disgust after she tried to clear up her statement. Naturally, Twitter went in on Church and fired up some serious slander.

Perhaps Church, who grow up in Ireland and Australia, doesn’t know the racist history of water hose use in demonstrations featuring Black Americans during the Civil Rights Movement times but that’s still no business of a journalist to offer such an opinion. Stick to the reporting, ma’am.

Check out the slander on Twitter on the following pages.
