Despite his arrogance, Kanye West has always appreciated quality art and has never had an issue with giving kudos or informing the world of who or what he perceives to be dope. That said, it’s no surprise that the multi-platinum artists was spotted with Raury, a 17-year-old singer-songwriter and guitarist.
Age has been no determinant for the East Atlanta teen’s early success. And with the anticipation for his upcoming album, Indigo Child, at peak levels, his visual for “God’s Whisper” managed to hit the G.O.O.D. Music founder’s radar.
Complex reports that West was so inspired by the creative clip that he later flew Raury out. To where the ATLien flew if of no question, yet it speaks volumes of what he’s been able to accomplish with his art in such a short time. “The two played each others album and just kicked it,” a rep for Raury said of his time with the Grammy winner. “However, West is working on his next album and they plan to hit the studio very soon.”
Perhaps it was Raury’s youthful, but rebellious (the two could be nearly synonymous) nature that piqued West’s interests. Maybe the Chicago native sees a bit of himself in the budding star. In any case, Raury’s upside looked promising long before West’s co-sign. But it damn sure helps.
