Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended four games by the NFL for amphetamine use. Adding to Welker’s rowing of the struggle boat is claims he used Molly cut with amphetamines during his head-turning time at the Kentucky Derby earlier this May.
Welker, a two-time All-Pro, has vehemently denied the charges of that he used performance enhancing drugs, which is what he got popped for with the amphetamines. Sources claim that amphetamines Welker is accused of using is often taken alongside MDMA, or Molly, and would fall under the NFL’s “drug of abuse” list and not a PED.
Welker wrote an email to the Denver Post stating that the league’s drug-testing policy is flawed and that he’s never taken shortcuts in his career.
Compounding matters even further, sources tell the Denver Post that Welker may have been using Adderall, a league approved drug, but one a player must have written consent to use.
The 33-year-old Welker did admit to drinking, which is probably a no-brainer considering he was handing out $100 bills to strangers at the Derby in fun-loving fashion. Welker also suspects the possibility someone laced his drink at one point with whatever substance was found. Welker also stated he doesn’t even know what Molly is.
“I wouldn’t have any idea where to get a Molly or what a Molly is,” Welker wrote. “That’s a joke. I don’t do marijuana, I don’t do drugs. I don’t do any drugs.”
The Broncos were well aware of the league’s plans to suspend Welker, who was attempting to appeal their ruling. According to NFL rules, a PED offense draws an automatic four-game suspension. Recreational drugs have lesser charges, which seems a little backwards.
Welker would be eligible to play again in the first week in October.
