First reported as a missing child on March 27, 2009, a woman has finally come clean and admitted to her role in the kidnapping and murder of a young girl.

Melissa Huckaby, 29, pled guilty May 10 to the March 2009 kidnapping and murder of Sandra Cantu, 8, whose body was discovered stuffed inside a black suitcase in an irrigation pond.

Huckaby is the granddaughter of Pastor Clifford Lawless of Clover Road Baptist Church, in Tracy, California.

It has been reported that police in Tracy believe she murdered Cantu in the church where she worked as a Sunday school teacher for five children, and where her grandfather served as a minister.

As a plea deal, admitting to the crime has resulted in prosecutors dropping the death sentence and rape charges that were initially presented against Huckaby.

San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Linda Lofthus has stated that she would reconsider her ruling next month for the woman to spend the rest of her natural life within state prison.

Even with her plea, the cause of death for young Sandra and the evidence supporting the rape charge have yet to be revealed, if they exist.

The sentencing of Huckaby has been scheduled for the morning of June 14.  Reports are suggesting that she could receive a sentence of at least 25 years.
