Wyclef Jean is continuing to be recognized by colleges for his philanthropy through his Yele Haiti Foundation.

As previously reported Harvard University named him their 2010 “Artist of The Year” and awarded him a medal for his “contributions to music and humanity.”

Now Clef is being honored again, this time by Western Connecticut State University who presented him with an honorary doctorate degree.

Clef delivered the commencement speech to the class of 2010 Sunday and told graduates how he went from being an impoverished child in Haiti to the man he is today.

“Believe it or not, I used to ride a donkey to school in Haiti. I lived in a one‐room shack. When I came to America, I didn’t speak a word of English. Today I am able to travel the world, reach people with my music, work on behalf of my native Haiti and even speak at a college commencement. I am proof that anything you want is possible, if you can only envision it first.”

He was also presented with a $9,500 check for Yele Haiti.
