Wednesday (October 2), over 21,000 parents and teachers gathered at Foley Square in New York City to raise awareness around the education crisis plaguing area schools.

Coined DontStealPossible, the rally had the support of Families for Excellent Schools (an affiliate organization), artist Greg Lamarche, whose 8 ft. tall x 160 ft. mural was unveiled, and The Roots’ own Questlove. Attendees were purposed with calling for equality as far as education goes for children in NYC, where there’s a hierarchy of schools, with both quality learning experiences and privileges that not everyone has access to.

“This morning I took a stand for kids education. Every child deserves a good school and a great education,” said the renowned drummer, who deejayed alongside the kids of the Success Academy Bronx 2 Dance Team.

Children were given a chance to add to Lamarche’s mural. Additionally, the painter will unveil five more murals in the five boroughs over the next few weeks.
