The legend of Griselda Blanco aka La Madrina continues. Her infamous reign as Colombia’s most vicious drug lord will be captured in a new movie titled The Godmother with Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Blanco.

Throughout the 19070’s and 1980’s, Blanco played a major role in the drug trade that rampaged Miami and other cities as captured in the cult documentary Cocaine Cowboys. As a figurehead in the Medellín Cartel, Blanco was famous for her murderous operations. It is alleged that she is responsible for over two hundred homicides.

Now a feature film is in the works that will detail her rise to infamy. Zeta-Jones, who is Welsh, will play The Black Widow with Norwegian born director Eva Sorhuag at the helm. While it seems like the project will have a heavy foreign influence, it should be noted Jones has experience playing Latino characters, specifically in the The Mask of Zorro.

The real life Griselda Blanco was arrested in 1985 and stayed in prison until she was released and deported to Colombia in 2004. On September 3, 2012 Blanco was murdered by an unknown gunman in a drive by shooting in Medellín, Colombia.

There is no expected release date for The Godmother movie. Never heard of Griselda? Watch the clip below for a proper introduction.
