D’Angelo Announces Black Messiah Album, To Release In 2014?

Wait. The Internets are booming with news about D’Angelo, who after 14 years away from creating music will return with his highly anticipated album Black Messiah.

The Virginia singer-songwriter and instrumentalist hasn’t dropped an album since his critically acclaimed release Voodoo back in 2000. But since then, D’Angelo has been plagued with substance addiction and self-doubt, due to fans becoming more enamored with his body than his music (read the full story in GQ‘s 2012 cover story).

The project is credited to D’Angelo and The Vanguard, a band that possibly includes Questlove, who spoke on working on the the singer’s new music at the Red Bull Music Academy earlier this year. Kevin Liles, the crooner’s manager, also promised that the LP would release in 2014.

And to top it off, D’Angelo is hosting a private listening event in New York City on Sunday, December 14. Peep a promo clip for Black Messiah below.
