You never really hear anyone say “this might not be for him” about men who examine sports for a living. So, we’re going to call Chris Paul out on what sounds like a sexist remark toward “rookie” Lauren Holtkamp, one of two full-time women referees in the league.

Paul was less than happy about a technical foul Holtkamp called against him in the Los Angeles Clippers’ 105-94 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night (Feb. 5).

Via ESPN:

“I think we have to show better composure, but at the same time some of [the technical fouls] were ridiculous,” said Paul. “The tech that I get right there was ridiculous. I don’t care what nobody says, I don’t care what she says; that’s terrible. There’s no way that can be a tech. We try to get the ball out fast every time down the court, and when we did that, she said, ‘Uh-uh.’ I said, ‘Why, uh-uh?’ And she gave me a tech.

“That’s ridiculous. If that’s the case, this might not be for her.”

Paul along with several other Clippers players maintain their disgruntle had nothing to do with gender, but everything to do with her calls.

For what it’s worth, Holtkamp had six seasons of NBA Development League experience, including work in the 2013 and 2014 D-League Finals. She’s also refereed in the WNBA, college and FIBA ranks all before her foray into the NBA.

Is Paul right about the calls being unjust, or was he in his feelings and blamed the girl? Sound off in the comments.
