In a June 8th interview, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said that the Obama administration will sue the state over its new immigration law, the new legislation that would make being in Arizona illegally a misdemeanor.

Clinton said that President Barack Obama thinks the federal government should determine immigration policy and that they Justice Department “will be bringing a lawsuit against the act.”

Arizona governor Jan Brewer signed the legislation, and it is set to go into effect July 29th pending a review of the Justice Department.  This could be halted  because the department has been researching the law for possible civil rights violations, which might mean a potential lawsuit.

According to Brewer spokesman Paul Senseman, the governor was “outraged” and that Clinton’s comments allow them to believe that the Justice Department will take steps to prevent the legislation.
