A Fox News television anchor based in Ohio reported on Lady Gaga‘s 2015 Oscars performance. During the live broadcast, the anchor described the performance as “jigaboo” music while her Black co-anchor gamely kept it professional.

Kristi Capel, a former beauty pageant winner, hosts Fox 8 News’ morning program which covers Cleveland and its greater surrounding areas. Capel and her co-host were complimenting Lady Gaga on her moving tribute to Julie Andrews and the Sound Of Music, remarking on how they didn’t know she had the talent. This is where Capel messed up big time.

“It’s hard to really hear her voice with all that jigaboo music that she [does],” said Capel with a laugh. “She has a gorgeous voice, I never knew!”

It got a little uncomfortable from that point as her co-anchor stared at her and watched Capel try to recover from that huge goof. We should give this brother props for not losing it and giving Capel a dressing down on camera, but we’re sure something got said once the camera’s went dark.

Capel was copping pleas on Twitter earlier this morning, using a stock copy and paste apology to anyone who checked her over at her account.

“I do apologize if I offended you, I didn’t know the meaning behind it or that it was even a word. Thank you for watching,” has been the common refrain.

As of today, Capel still has her job at Fox News 8. Watch the clip below.
